NEWS & EVENTS
Victoria Park has benefited from several major enhancements via Council and third party investment in park facilities as well as from infrastructure enhancements resulting from hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games bowls events.
NEW PLAY AREA
Following the 2018 co-sponsored survey of park users, the Friends were closely involved in developing the brief and assessing proposals from four play design and equipment companies.
In June 2022, the brand new play area was formally opened to huge enthusiasm from hundreds of children.
OUTDOOR GYM
Thanks to the generosity of third party donors, new outdoor gym equipment (between the skatepark and Princes Drive) was launched in April 2021 - a development that has proved extremely popular with visitors of all ages.
PARK IMPROVEMENTS
Warwick District Council have improved several other park facilities ranging from the tennis and bowls pavilions to resurfaced tennis courts to new signage and seating to new plantings of flowers, shrubs and trees.
PARK EVENTS
Bowls England play various national competitions on the Victoria Park bowling greens, notably the Natioonal Mens and Womens Championships that are held over 18 days in the summer.
High profile events in the public area of the park like the annual Santa Dash and the Fake Festival are arranged by individual organisers and Warwick District Council.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENTS
Partly in response to the findings of the 2023 survey of park users, the paddling pool is to be renovated and enhanced or reopening in 2025. The Friends have suggested novel decoration for the pool.
The survey also shows strong support for further improvements like lighting in the park and increased biodiversity – further announcements are expected later in 2024.
In the meantime, the Friends have been campaigning for the Victoria Park to join a scheme run by Fields in Trust to ensure that the park can only be used for sport or recreational activities and that it will always be there for the benefit of the community and nature.
