NEWS & EVENTS
Victoria Park is undergoing several major enhancements resulting from Council and third party investment in park facilities as well as from extensive preparations for hosting the 2022 Commonwealth Games bowls events.
With Covid restrictions lifted, the park is resuming as the site of various popular events.
NEW PLAY AREA
The contract for investing £350k to “create an exciting and bespoke play space to replace the existing facility” was awarded to Kompan after a small team of evaluators, including one from the Friends, assessed detailed proposals from four expert companies.
New facilitiesinclude a giant Tree House structure,; swings, roundabouts, a large sand play space etc. for younger children; and a novel dual cableway for older children on the other side of the paddling pool.
Installation is now complete and the Play Area is OPEN and enjoyed by hundreds of children.
OUTDOOR GYM
Thanks largely to third party donors, new outdoor gym equipment (between the skatepark and Princes Drive) launched in April 2021.
PARK IMPROVEMENTS
Warwick District Council are implementing several other improvements to the bowling greens, the bowls and tennis pavilions, and Princes Drive car park. The Old Tennis Courts area of the park – continuing as an area for informal parking by park users and bowlers - has been resurfaced to eliminate potholes.
For more details and map see the Warwick District Council website. More details are issued to members of the Friends.
2022 COMMONWEALTH GAMES
The 2022 Commonwealth Games lawn bowls and para lawn bowls competitions take place from 29 July to 6 August.
The set-up and take-down of the Games Zone structure were originally targeted to take up to 3 months but sustained campaigning by Friends and our friends have greatly reduced planned restrictions on easy access to the Park.
Planning approval notes that residents should be "actively involved in the process" and account should be taken of "the timescales tabled by Friends of Victoria Park".
OTHER EVENTS
High profile events like the annual Santa Dash and the Fake Festival are arranged by individual organisers and Warwick District Council.
The Friends occasionally organise their own lower key events like a summer holiday picnic. If you are interested in running this sort of event, please contact us.
